Last September after the Starboard conference, I got in my head to try the sprint unlimited
in a race, how fast is it? Do something that perhaps hasn’t been done before, push the boundaries!The opportunity to do a race in the UK and overseas (perhaps) on an unlimited board is very limited:-) How about the Head Of The Dart (HOTD)?
The crazy crew at Tushingham, distributors of Starboard in the UK and my bestist Sponsors asked if wanted to come to Spain in September for 3 fun days for free: -I said………… ………………………….yesssssssssss!
Totally stoked! An amazing season of sporting achievements for me, a reflection of all the hard work and quite a lot of uncontrollable elements (luck!) going my way. Still hard to believe….started with 2nd overall in our Frostbite series in April, through to 3rd in the last UK SUP clubs race in the Gower mid-August. Total series points meant 3rd overall and 1st Masters in the UK SUP clubs’ 10 race series (12’6″)!!
My family and I had got to Port Eynon on the Thursday before, for a little holiday as we had time and had been to this lovely Gower spot before. Fun bit of camping with a little paddle training was had and started to see some of the other racers arrive on Friday afternoon.
Even though I was physically prepared for this race, my mind wasn’t filled with the focus and desire for peak performance. Continue reading
This was the 6th race for me in the UK SUP clubs series, so really looking for some good points to add to my series total. I’d been away in Pembrokeshire on a great family holiday for the week before this one and I really backed off on the training due to feeling worn out from lots of races and training since February.
